My name is David Black and I’ve been making children’s birthday parties fun, entertaining and unforgettable for over 35 years. One of the greatest compliments I’ve received was when Ryan DeLap of Johnson City asked me to perform at his daughter’s birthday party (he remembered what a blast he had when I performed at his birthday in 1992!).
You see, I’m gratified to be invited back, time and time again, by parents for each of their children’s parties. Things change through the years (fashion, gas prices, waist lines) and though the contents of my show may have changed over the years to stay fresh and relevant… the fun remains the same.
My approach to performing for kids and their families is simple. Treat everyone with respect and have fun. Often I have been told after a show that it looked like I was having as much fun as the kids!
At this point, you’re probably wondering what happens during your child‘s magic birthday show. The Magic Birthday Party Package consists of a 40 minute comedy, audience participation magic show perfect for children aged 4 to 10 years old.
Your child is the Star of the Show!
Your child is featured in many of the tricks. I do the magic and he gets the applause. This makes him feel very special being in front of all the other children helping the magician perform magic. Now sometimes the birthday boy can be a little shy the day of his party. No problem. Then he gets to choose which friends help out during the show.
And since it is an audience participation show, all the kids are engaged in some way. This is important because, as you know, kids don’t want to just sit and watch a show, they want to be involved and feel like they’re participating in the magic. The kids really believe they are making the magic happen! As I leave parties, I see kids often mimicking the magic they just experienced during the show!
At one point in the show I actually make your child disappear! Don’t worry, I don’t really make his person disappear. I have you send me a picture of your child, which I copy and put on a CD or playing card. That’s what I make disappear. You can imagine his surprise when I pull out the picture and say, “This is the person I’m going to make vanish!” After some fun escapades, their photo reappears in a surprising location and they keep the picture as a memento of their special day.
The show wraps up with the magical appearance of Bette the Bunny! Bette is a friendly, gentle, REAL bunny that the kids just adore. Of course, the kids get to meet and pet Betty after the show. It’s also a great time to take pictures with Bette.
THE TOTAL INVESTMENT FOR THE Magic Birthday Show IS $235 in Western New York and Broome County. There may be an additional travel fee for locations outside these areas.
Please keep in mind that I’m one of the busiest entertainers in the Twin Tiers. I can only accept a limited number of engagements and work on a first come, first serve basis.
